For operations, plant and engineering managers

Plants change.
Your hazardous area classification should keep up.

Gas and dust hazardous areas, classified against the plant as it's built and run.

Tell us what's changed or what you've been asked for. We'll come back within three business days with a fixed scope, price and dates. Or call 1300 690 102.

When the plant changes

When the plant has moved on and the paperwork hasn't.

New equipment going in. A change of material. An auditor asking for a DHA. An insurer's requirement. A contractor who needs zone drawings before they can build.

Or a classification written years ago that no longer describes the plant you run.

Someone has to sign off on it, and it's hard to stand behind a document that doesn't match the site.

How the zones are worked

Zones you can stand behind.

We start from the plant, not the paperwork. Every zone is worked from your materials, release sources, ventilation and operating states.

And if the answer is that you need less than you thought, we'll tell you.

Most of our work comes from clients and partners we've already delivered for.

In clients' words

“Zero Industries provided us with a clear, actionable plan to improve our dust management. Their approach was methodical yet practical, helping us enhance safety while maintaining productivity.”

Operations Manager, CopRice

“Their thorough peer review of an existing assessment and practical recommendations have significantly improved our laboratory safety initiatives.”

The plan

From uncertainty to clarity.

1

Send the brief.

By email or the form

Send whatever you have: drawings, an old classification, your client's scope, or a few lines about what's changed.

2

Get a fixed quote.

Quoted from your brief

What's included, what it costs and when it's done, in writing. If we need to see something first, we'll say so.

3

Get records you can sign off.

On site or from your drawings

Where the job needs a visit, we walk the plant with the people who run it. You get drawings and a report your team can sign off and work from.

Not sure what you need?

$8,800 + GST, fixed*

Start with a site assessment. Two days on site, a written report within a week, and a fixed price for our part of anything that follows.

*One site. Travel at cost. Larger sites are quoted from the brief.

Already have a classification?

Send it to us. We'll tell you in writing whether it still matches the current standards and your plant as you describe it. If we find something that matters, we'll say so plainly, whether or not you work with us. Free for one site, within five business days.

It's a read of the documents you send. It isn't a classification or a sign-off.

Send it for review
What you end up with

Records that match your site.

  • Drawings and a report, with the reasoning for every zone recorded.
  • For every zone: the gas or dust group, the temperature class or maximum surface temperature, and the equipment protection level.
  • Ex equipment only where the zones call for it.

When the next auditor, insurer or contractor asks, you answer from the documents. When the plant changes again, it's a revision, not a restart.

If it waits

What an out-of-date classification costs.

Time.

A contractor waiting on zone drawings before they can start.

Money.

Ex equipment bought for the wrong zone, or missing where it's needed.

Sign-off.

Your name on records that describe a plant you no longer run.

Where we work

Your sector, gas and dust.

Flour milling machinery
01

Food & Dairy

Flour, sugar, milk powder and coffee on one side of the plant. Ammonia refrigeration, biogas, and gas trains to boilers on the other. We classify both, so the site has one set of records.

A sewage treatment plant from the air
02

Water & Wastewater

Digester gas at sewage treatment plants, and the electrical installations serving it. We classify the plant and set up the verification dossiers for the installed equipment.

Horizontal fuel storage tanks under a shelter
03

Chemical

Flammable gases, solvents and liquids. Each release source is worked from first principles, and flammable liquid storage is assessed under AS 1940.

Stainless steel process vessels
04

Pharmaceutical

API powders, excipients and nutraceutical ingredients, and the solvents used alongside them. Where powders and solvents share a mixing or packing room, both are classified together.

Paper rolls on a paper machine
05

Wood & Paper

Paper dust in recycling and converting, and wood dust in sawmills and panel plants. The process line is assessed as one connected system, from pick-up points to collectors.

Fine aluminium particles under a machined rod
06

Metal Processing

Aluminium, magnesium and other reactive metal dusts have ignition sensitivities that differ from organic dusts. The dust group, the surface temperature limits and the protection are set from test data on your own material.

Services

What you can ask us for.

We classify gas and dust hazardous areas for operating plants in food and dairy, water and wastewater, chemical, pharmaceutical, wood and paper, and metal processing. We also analyse dust hazards, set up verification dossiers, provide ongoing support and run site assessments. Each job is quoted at a fixed price before it starts.

Hazardous Area Classification, gas and dust

The zones on your site, worked from how the plant runs.

You'll know where each zone is, the equipment protection level it needs, and where the area isn't hazardous.

Quoted from your brief and drawings. If we need to see the site before we can price it, we'll say so.

Dust Hazard Analysis

The explosion risk inside your dust-handling equipment.

Each item of equipment is assessed. Where protection is needed, we specify its performance: venting, suppression, isolation, containment or inerting. The supplier designs and supplies it.

Quoted from your brief. If dust testing is needed, it's scoped in the quote.

Verification Dossier

The record every hazardous area installation needs.

Each item of equipment set against its zone, with its certificate, its conditions of use and the inspection regime. Your inspector records the results in it.

Priced from your equipment list and the state of the existing records.

Ongoing Support

The dossier and inspection regime kept current as the plant changes.

We check that inspections are done, track defects to closure and look at each change you tell us about. When a change needs the classification revised, we quote it.

A monthly retainer, sized to the site.
